Meet Charles Weaver, Medical Oncologist

I am so honored and excited to welcome Charles Weaver MD, Medical Oncologist, to the Learn Look Locate Medical Advisory Board. He has dedicated his career to helping patients understand the rapidly evolving role of precision cancer medicines in oncology in order to improve patient decision-making and engagement. We will be working together to help the navigation of a breast cancer diagnosis a little bit easier.

Charles H. Weaver, MD, is a pioneering stem cell cancer researcher, developer of the modern practice management industry, strategic consultant to pharma on clinical trial design and conduct, and early advocate and adopter of digital media and social media solutions to enhance patient education, engagement, and recruitment to clinical trials. Following an initial research career at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and as Chief Medical Office of a publically traded PPM company, Dr. Weaver founded OMNI Health Media (OMNI), a leading digital and print healthcare publishing company with unique expertise in oncology content development, digital content distribution, and social media. On behalf of industry Dr. Weaver actively engages oncology KOL’s and community physician groups, moderates industry sponsored educational symposia, and performs market research to further the understanding of the rapidly evolving role of precision cancer medicines in oncology in order to improve patient decision making and engagement on behalf of oncology clients.

OMNI developed news.cancerconnect.com, an award-winning, ASCO recommended, leading Internet cancer portal and social media platform used by Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Roswell Park Cancer Inst, The Ohio State James Cancer Inst, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, UCSF, NYU-Perlmutter and others to support over 250,000 cancer patients that use the resource monthly.

Dr. Weaver received his medical training at the University of Pennsylvania, National Institutes of Health, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He served five years as the Chief Medical Officer of a publicly traded Physician Practice Management (PPM) company, where he created a national stem cell transplant and clinical trials research network and developed cancer treatment strategies, educational programs, and management pathways used by over 750 oncologists in the U.S. He developed the FHCRC clinical trials outreach program and the first national physician investigator organization facilitating the movement of industry-regulatory clinical trials into the private sector. He remains actively engaged in strategic consulting around all aspects of clinical trials design and recruitment.

Dr. Weaver’s initial research interests included stem cell transplantation in lymphomas, immunotherapy, and development of the first allogeneic blood stem cell transplant program at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He has written and lectured extensively, authoring over 70 peer-reviewed articles in major medical journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Blood, Cancer, Bone Marrow Transplantation and the New England Journal of Medicine. He has given grand rounds and lectured internationally on stem cell treatments as an invited speaker at the University of London, the University of Heidelberg, Duke, Stanford, Georgetown, and over 100 other cancer centers
