So if the biopsy shows cancer, what can a woman expect to happen next? Well, fortunately, about 75 % of the time after a biopsy, the biopsy is benign, in which case we’ll often repeat imaging six months to a year later to reinforce the fact that it is benign.”
If unfortunately, we find that it’s a malignant tumor or a cancer, then the most critical part is to meet with a surgeon as soon as possible after that diagnosis. Because navigating the terrain when just diagnosed with a cancer can be very, very difficult. I believe my most important role as a surgeon is to meet with people as soon as possible after their diagnosis and really help them understand what that diagnosis means, what options they have. And more than anything else, most of the time we can reassure people that this will pass. And the life that you had before your cancer diagnosis, you’ll have again.”

We will feature stories of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and share their journeys.
There are several ways to diagnose breast cancer, including mammograms, biopsies, and ultrasounds. Once breast cancer is diagnosed, there are a few treatment options available, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The best way to treat breast cancer is to catch it early and to get the best treatment possible.
There is a strong community of women who have been affected by breast cancer. In addition, there are a number of organizations and resources available to help women find the support they need.
