We want to be able to get all breast tissue and we want to be able to compress it evenly so that we can reduce false positive callbacks while also getting a good view at all of our tissues. So, some of the areas that can be missed based on positioning or based on, you know, if a patient is uncomfortable and they kind of pull back, for example, or further up in the underarm, lower down in the breast on the sides, things like that.
I mean, our breast tissue extends from our sternum all the way to the side. But for most of us, you know, we’re getting sort of the meat and bones of it that are that are in the center. And same for, you know, when they’re when they’re putting your arm up, and you have to go in, I mean, some of us have quite a bit of tissue that extends up into the underarm and so, and any of that is subject to breast cancer. So if that’s what you mean by blind spots, then yes, I mean, they do exist.”

Dr. Malik’s educational journey includes a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, followed by her MD from Tulane University School of Medicine, where she was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. The five-year survival rate for women who catch their cancer early is nearly 100%. Here’s an important statistic. Many women do not perform self-breast exams or see a doctor for regular screenings. We will feature stories of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and share their journeys.
There are several ways to diagnose breast cancer, including mammograms, biopsies, and ultrasounds. Once breast cancer is diagnosed, there are a few treatment options available, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The best way to treat breast cancer is to catch it early and to get the best treatment possible.
There is a strong community of women who have been affected by breast cancer. In addition, there are a number of organizations and resources available to help women find the support they need.
