My analogy for that is A is like a glass bottom boat on a glacier lake. You can see everything, every pebble. Right. B is scattered fibroglandular densities. That’s between 25 and 50% glandular elements.
You can see through the tissue pretty well. But there is potential for some masking. C is heterogeneously dense, which is between 50 and 75% of the tissue is glandular, and then D is extremely dense, and that’s 75% or greater percent of the tissue is glandular.”
Dr. Stacy Smith-Foley is a seasoned physician with over 17 years of clinical experience in breast imaging. She currently serves as the Medical Director of The Breast Center at CARTI. Dr. Smith-Foley completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Central Arkansas and earned her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She then went on to complete her Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Tennessee and a fellowship in breast imaging at the University of Washington/Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
Dr. Smith-Foley has co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles and has participated in multiple breast imaging reader studies. She is a leader in her field, serving on the Hologic Scientific Advisory Board and advising Beekley Medical. Her work focuses on detecting and diagnosing breast cancer, offering genetic testing, and providing supplemental screening for women with dense breasts and high-risk screening with MRI.

The five-year survival rate for women who catch their cancer early is nearly 100%. Here’s an important statistic. Many women do not perform self-breast exams or see a doctor for regular screenings. We will feature stories of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and share their journeys.
There are several ways to diagnose breast cancer, including mammograms, biopsies, and ultrasounds. Once breast cancer is diagnosed, there are a few treatment options available, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The best way to treat breast cancer is to catch it early and to get the best treatment possible.
There is a strong community of women who have been affected by breast cancer. In addition, there are a number of organizations and resources available to help women find the support they need.
