And so it’s one of the reasons I love sending people to Learn Look Locate, and some of the other communities that I’m a part of because what you get there is a few things. One is you get true experts in the field who understand what they’re doing, who are kind of at that cutting edge point, people who are pushing the field forward.
And so they can talk about what those options are because, like you, you know, and we’ve talked about, you know, you don’t know what you don’t know. And so at least hearing what is out there, so you can take it back to your local team is really important.
It also allows you to engage and interact with other community members who’ve been through it recently. So, you know, we always say wonderfully, like, it’s not your grandmother’s breast cancer right now, it may not even be your mother’s breast cancer either, you know, and so I think this idea that you’re actually interacting with people who maybe just had their treatment six months ago or someone that you can connect with in real time, see what’s going on and not just someone that maybe someone’s aunt who got treated 40 years ago, which can also be really scary, right? Because a lot of the ways we used to treat breast cancer do leave a lot of really very scary chronic problems.”
Dr. Peled is a practicing breast cancer and plastic surgeon based in San Francisco. She is board-certified in plastic surgery and has fellowship training in breast surgical oncology, making her uniquely able to offer both breast oncologic and reconstructive surgical care. She is the co-director of the Breast Care Center of Excellence at Sutter Health California Pacific Medical Center. She has an extensive research experience focused on improving outcomes after breast cancer surgery and breast reconstruction and is currently involved in research looking at novel approaches to optimize patient satisfaction and quality-of-life after breast surgery.
Dr. Peled has a passion for educating patients and health care professionals about oncoplastic surgery and breast reconstruction options, regularly teaching at courses across the U.S. to increase awareness around these approaches. She is a breast cancer survivor herself and shares her story to inspire others to advocate for themselves to achieve their best health outcomes.
We advocate the importance of self-breast exams, what to look for when performing a self-exam, and when to see a doctor. We provide resources for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as for their families and friends.
The five-year survival rate for women who catch their cancer early is nearly 100%. Here’s an important statistic. Many women do not perform self-breast exams or see a doctor for regular screenings. Learn Look Locate LLC wants to highlight the work of organizations around the world that are working to promote early detection of breast cancer. We will feature stories of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and share their journeys.
There are several ways to diagnose breast cancer, including mammograms, biopsies, and ultrasounds. Once breast cancer is diagnosed, there are a few treatment options available, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The best way to treat breast cancer is to catch it early and to get the best treatment possible.
There is a strong community of women who have been affected by breast cancer. In addition, there are a number of organizations and resources available to help women find the support they need.
