It’s a new normal. And I kept going while I remember how I used to feel. I remember how I used to look. And you can’t think that way. We have to go forward.
And everything changes in life and this is cancer and it’s scary and you have to advocate for yourself. You have to understand who your team is and you have to create that team yourself. No health system, no cancer center is going to tell you what you are going to do with your body. Nobody is going to tell you that. Nobody is going to tell you what doctor you have to use. You can use, you can choose whoever you want and whatever option you want and there is no right or wrong.
In 2017, Kelly, a breast cancer survivor, was diagnosed with HR+ HER2- invasive ductal carcinoma after finding a lump shortly following a clear mammogram. Determined to take charge of her treatment, she opted for a double mastectomy and later transitioned to aromatase inhibitors. Cynthia Jordan, Founder of Learn Look Locate LLC in 2018 has generated a global movement to provide critical education for the early detection of breast cancer. It is estimated that one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. While most of these cases are diagnosed in women over the age of 50, the disease can affect women of any age. Early detection is critical to survival, yet many women are not familiar with the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
We advocate the importance of self-breast exams, what to look for when performing a self-exam, and when to see a doctor. We provide resources for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as for their families and friends.
