Allison DiPasquale, MD: Typical way of diagnosing it besides getting a mammogram and ultrasound and a biopsy is we can actually in our clinic do something called a punch biopsy. It’s very quick and easy. It’s virtually almost painless. We give you a little numbing cream on top and numb it up and then take a little tiny baby almost like cookie cutter of the skin and that’s what really is the clinical diagnosis or the pathological diagnosis showing that in the skin There’s dermal lymphatic invasion, meaning that the tumor cells have invaded the dermis and the lymphatics of the skin. That is what’s causing the red color, and that is what’s causing the skin thickening, because the skin is not able to drain through the lymphatics because they’re clogged with tumor.

She decided at an early age to dedicate her career to those affected with breast cancer. Dr. DiPasquale strives to progress the field of breast cancer surgery and push the needle forward in terms of Surgical technique and innovation.
Katrina is in the process of writing a book that narrates her journey with breast cancer. Unlike traditional memoirs on the subject, she aims to present her story in a novelistic format, giving cancer and her brain their own characters.
