There are, you know, sadly people that have breast lumps for, you know, months and years and just don’t see anyone about it because of the stigma or because of fear.
And so I think getting out there, you know, I always talk about the fact that I found my breast cancer myself, because at 37, I had no family history, I wasn’t getting screened. So, you know, I think that idea, okay, you find a breast It doesn’t go away after a couple of weeks. You have to go in and get it checked out. And so continuing for all of us to talk about that, we’re doing breast health exams that you can be incredibly healthy.
And I always say I was a vegetarian triathlete. I was taking really good care of myself. Like it still happens. And it doesn’t mean that I don’t still do all those things. Actually, I think it’s more important than ever that I’m exercising and taking care of my health, but you still have to, you know, move forward with your health when you find new things. You can’t ignore them. The fear can’t take over.”
Dr. Peled is a practicing breast cancer and plastic surgeon based in San Francisco. She is board-certified in plastic surgery and has fellowship training in breast surgical oncology, making her uniquely able to offer both breast oncologic and reconstructive surgical care. She is the co-director of the Breast Care Center of Excellence at Sutter Health California Pacific Medical Center. She has an extensive research experience focused on improving outcomes after breast cancer surgery and breast reconstruction and is currently involved in research looking at novel approaches to optimize patient satisfaction and quality-of-life after breast surgery.
Dr. Peled has a passion for educating patients and health care professionals about oncoplastic surgery and breast reconstruction options, regularly teaching at courses across the U.S. to increase awareness around these approaches. She is a breast cancer survivor herself and shares her story to inspire others to advocate for themselves to achieve their best health outcomes.
We advocate the importance of self-breast exams, what to look for when performing a self-exam, and when to see a doctor. We provide resources for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as for their families and friends.
The five-year survival rate for women who catch their cancer early is nearly 100%. Here’s an important statistic. Many women do not perform self-breast exams or see a doctor for regular screenings. Learn Look Locate LLC wants to highlight the work of organizations around the world that are working to promote early detection of breast cancer. We will feature stories of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and share their journeys.
There are several ways to diagnose breast cancer, including mammograms, biopsies, and ultrasounds. Once breast cancer is diagnosed, there are a few treatment options available, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The best way to treat breast cancer is to catch it early and to get the best treatment possible.
There is a strong community of women who have been affected by breast cancer. In addition, there are a number of organizations and resources available to help women find the support they need.
