Insurance coverage varies from state to state and from policy to policy, but even if you have to pay some out of your pocket, you need to be getting an ultrasound.
I had my ultrasound this year, and I had 16 cysts in my breast. And even looking back at my mammogram, I can maybe see one or two of the areas that are probably cysts in my left breast. I did the same thing last year, and I had 16 cysts last year. But they’re not all the same. They are in different locations. Some are larger, some are smaller. Some have gone away, and there are new ones. Our hormones can cause cysts to form.”
Dr. Stacy Smith-Foley is a seasoned physician with over 17 years of clinical experience in breast imaging. She currently serves as the Medical Director of The Breast Center at CARTI. Dr. Smith-Foley completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Central Arkansas and earned her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She then went on to complete her Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Tennessee and a fellowship in breast imaging at the University of Washington/Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
Dr. Smith-Foley has co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles and has participated in multiple breast imaging reader studies. She is a leader in her field, serving on the Hologic Scientific Advisory Board and advising Beekley Medical. Her work focuses on detecting and diagnosing breast cancer, offering genetic testing, and providing supplemental screening for women with dense breasts and high-risk screening with MRI.

There are several ways to diagnose breast cancer, including mammograms, biopsies, and ultrasounds. Once breast cancer is diagnosed, there are a few treatment options available, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The best way to treat breast cancer is to catch it early and to get the best treatment possible.
There is a strong community of women who have been affected by breast cancer. In addition, there are a number of organizations and resources available to help women find the support they need.
