If you think about the last 20 years, how far we’ve come with implant approaches, flap approaches, but even if you think about the last just few years, putting aside all the new flaps that we can do, the types of implants that are available and approaches with implant reconstruction, we’ve become even more specialized with what we can offer as far as the quality of the outcome. There are sensation type of procedures that allow preservation of sensation at the time of mastectomy and at the time of reconstruction with nerve grafts.
We have 3-dimensional tattoo procedures that are now becoming available to allow correction of scarred nipple reconstructions or previous scars from previous poorly completed nipple tattoos or 3D nipple tattoos for somebody that doesn’t want nipple reconstruction and that’s relatively new. And of course, there’s a movement for women that decide to have aesthetic flat closure that don’t want to have a different type of reconstruction. So we keep advancing and pushing forward in what we do and trying to help people and providing them options.”
Ron Israeli, M.D. is a nationally recognized expert in breast reconstruction and a founding partner of NYBRA Plastic Surgery. For his leadership in post-mastectomy breast reconstruction, Dr. Israeli was honored by the American Cancer Society with their 2007 Physician of Distinction Award.
Dr. Israeli is co-founder of BreastReconstruction.org, a comprehensive web resource for women facing mastectomy. He has lectured at national conferences and has written multiple articles published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Israeli has also written textbook and atlas chapters on breast and abdominal wall reconstruction.

It is estimated that one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. While most of these cases are diagnosed in women over the age of 50, the disease can affect women of any age. Early detection is critical to survival, yet many women are not familiar with the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
We advocate the importance of self-breast exams, what to look for when performing a self-exam, and when to see a doctor. We provide resources for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as for their families and friends.
The five-year survival rate for women who catch their cancer early is nearly 100%. Here’s an important statistic. Many women do not perform self-breast exams or see a doctor for regular screenings. Learn Look Locate LLC wants to highlight the work of organizations around the world that are working to promote early detection of breast cancer. We will feature stories of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and share their journeys.
There are several ways to diagnose breast cancer, including mammograms, biopsies, and ultrasounds. Once breast cancer is diagnosed, there are a few treatment options available, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The best way to treat breast cancer is to catch it early and to get the best treatment possible.
There is a strong community of women who have been affected by breast cancer. In addition, there are a number of organizations and resources available to help women find the support they need.
