So there are patients and there are places that offer estrogen that is radioactive given to a patient for imaging where the radioactive, where the estrogen receptor positive breast cancer is. So you may have a biopsy from a primary breast cancer saying that it’s estrogen receptor positive. But if you now have 20 metastases throughout the body, are all of them also expressing estrogen receptor? Would all of them respond to anti -estrogen therapy? Maybe, maybe not. So let’s say that you have a way in which to image using radioactive estrogen, estradiol, you can give that to a patient and do a CAT scan.”
Dr. Ramji Rajendran has worked at AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center Cancer Institute for 11 years treating women with breast cancer and the Illinois Gamma Knife Center providing treatment for breast cancer patients with brain metastases. This year it has also become personal as my mom underwent successful treatment for a breast cancer recurrence. It is estimated that one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. We advocate the importance of self-breast exams, what to look for when performing a self-exam, and when to see a doctor. We provide resources for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as for their families and friends.
The five-year survival rate for women who catch their cancer early is nearly 100%. Here’s an important statistic. Many women do not perform self-breast exams or see a doctor for regular screenings. Learn Look Locate LLC wants to highlight the work of organizations around the world that are working to promote early detection of breast cancer. We will feature stories of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and share their journeys.
There are several ways to diagnose breast cancer, including mammograms, biopsies, and ultrasounds. Once breast cancer is diagnosed, there are a few treatment options available, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The best way to treat breast cancer is to catch it early and to get the best treatment possible.
There is a strong community of women who have been affected by breast cancer. In addition, there are a number of organizations and resources available to help women find the support they need.
