Treatment is Over…Now What?

Emotional

You have faced the unimaginable, you have confronted every human being’s worst nightmare, and now you are supposed to just go on autopilot and live like you once did before? I don’t think so!

You just went through a whirlwind of the most devastating news of your lifetime.

You are then on a fast track with doctors, blood tests, scans, cancer centers with appointments one after the other. The plan is in place; treatment, surgery, etc. is set. You see your medical team every day and get to know them and they know you. A connection is formed, an incredible bond with these amazing people that care so deeply that they have dedicated their careers to helping cancer patients. The good wishes, the cards, the phone calls come pouring in and there is a flurry of attention around your diagnosis and treatment.

Then, they send you home for your last appointment of treatment and here you are trying to start your life back up again.

Seriously? How? Who are you now?

You have faced the unimaginable, you have confronted every human being’s worst nightmare, and now you are supposed to just go on autopilot and live like you once did before? I don’t think so!

You are a different person and forever will be, you have formed new friendships, faced reality in a deeper sense than most of the people around you, you look at EVERYTHING and EVERYBODY differently.

Picking up the pieces, what pieces, you have a new foundation to build, you are not the same person. It is a rebirth of some fashion, a new outlook, a new perspective, a new chance with yourself, your relationships and how you want to live your very PRECIOUS life.

It takes time, compassion, and understanding from yourself first, and then the people around you. Be gentle and kind and unravel the old and welcome the new part of you that has faced the hardest battle of your life.

Be proud, reach out, connect, celebrate who you are every minute and every day because we truly know how precious life is and will now forever moving forward.

There is no plan, just breathe and trust.
