Biography
Dr. Don Dizon is an esteemed academic medical oncologist known for his expertise in novel therapeutics and translational research, with a focus on breast and pelvic cancers. As a Professor of Medicine and Surgery at Brown University, he combines clinical excellence with a passion for education and advocacy.
Dr. Dizon completed his medical education at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He then undertook his residency in Internal Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Medical Oncology at the renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Throughout his career, Dr. Dizon has been a pioneer in integrating modern communication technologies into healthcare. He is a founding member of the Collaboration for Outcomes using Social Media in Oncology (COSMO), which aims to evaluate professional social media use and its tangible benefits in oncology.
Dr. Dizon is deeply committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, focusing on improving access to cancer care for sexual and gender minorities. His work extends to cancer survivorship, championing a holistic approach that begins at diagnosis and emphasizes comprehensive care throughout the cancer journey.
As the Director of the Pelvic Malignancies Program at Lifespan Cancer Institute and Director of Community Outreach and Engagement at The Cancer Center at Brown University, Dr. Dizon leads efforts to enhance patient care and community health. He also serves as Co-Chief Medical Officer of the Global Cancer Institute, extending his impact internationally.
Dr. Dizon’s research interests span from clinical trials in gynecologic cancers to studies on the professional use of social media in oncology. He is particularly passionate about sexual health and intimacy services after a cancer diagnosis, having founded multiple sexual health programs and mentoring others in this field.
