Andrea, stage 2 breast cancer survivor from Texas

Hormone-Positive and Triple-Negative Breast Cancer: Andrea’s Two-Time Survivor Story

For breast cancer survivors, the question “Is my cancer coming back?” often lingers in their minds. Thanks to breakthrough technology in cancer monitoring, there’s now a powerful tool providing clearer answers: ctDNA testing. Dr. Barry Rosen, Senior Medical Advisor at Learn Look Locate, shares his expertise on this revolutionary approach to breast cancer surveillance.

Facing Breast Cancer at 42: The First Diagnosis

My name is Andrea Berkowitz and I am a two-time breast cancer warrior. My first encounter with breast cancer came as a shock. I was diagnosed at the age of 42 with hormone-driven breast cancer, only one month before my oldest daughter’s Bat Mitzvah. I chose to fight with every fiber of my being.

Battling Through Treatment: Double Mastectomy and Chemotherapy

I had a double mastectomy and 16 rounds of chemotherapy. Through the pain and uncertainty, I found a newfound strength and an unshakable perspective on the true meaning of resilience and happiness.

My battle with cancer wasn’t just a physical one; it was emotional and psychological as well. I had to dig deep within myself to find the courage to face each day with a smile, despite the challenges.

Second Diagnosis: Confronting Triple Negative Breast Cancer

After defeating cancer the first time, I emerged stronger and more determined than ever. However, life threw me another curveball when I was diagnosed with a very aggressive Triple Negative Breast Cancer unrelated to the first cancer. This second diagnosis was a crushing blow.

Perseverance Through Aggressive Treatment

I refused to let it define me. Despite undergoing two different chemotherapy regimens, the tumor did not shrink, and I faced a much less favorable prognosis. I then had 6 weeks of radiation and a year on a chemotherapy pill.

Transforming Pain into Purpose

My journey through cancer has shaped me into the resilient woman I am today and instilled a deep desire to inspire and empower others. My message is clear: no matter how tough life gets, there is always hope.

Embracing my creative side, I recently opened an online shop, Warrior Girl Gifts, offering humorous and inspiring gifts for women. This shop is a reflection of my personality—filled with joy, laughter, and a positive outlook on life.

Empowering Others as a Breast Cancer Coach

As a breast cancer coach, I remain dedicated to empowering others. I am thrilled to share my experiences and insights, hoping to empower others to embrace their own journeys with courage and positivity.

For me, life is a continuous journey filled with ups and downs. I try to embrace each moment with gratitude and a positive outlook, knowing that every experience—good or bad—shapes who we are.
